After suffering from polycystic ovaries and endometriosis since I was a teenager, I never expected pregnancy to come easy for me. After only 6 months of trying, we went to a doctor and a battery of tests confirmed that the problem lay with me.
Our first specialist gave us clomid and assured us it would work. Eight months later and nothing even close to a pregnancy, we transferred to a different specialist and commenced IUIs. After 3 IUIs, we had been pregnant twice, losing both to ectopic pregnancies that ruptured and required surgical removal. In the last surgery, I lost a fallopian tube and further IUI was deemed too risky.
We moved on to IVF. Out of 18 eggs, only 2 made it to embryo stage and were both transferred. One took. 9 months later, after a very anxious pregnancy, our beautiful, perfect son Carter was born. I’m so lucky to have him after our 2 year struggle and would do it all again tomorrow.
