My husband and I have been trying intentionally for 19 straight months. Our journey began more casually and graduated to intentional: utilizing OPKs, examining cervical mucus, having timed intercourse, and then moving to treatments including three failed rounds of Clomid, one failed round of Famara and a trigger shot with an IUI. We are currently planning and prepping for IVF in early 2017.
There isn’t a single part of this journey that is easy. It is the most taxing circumstance I’ve ever endured: mentally, physically, financially and emotionally. There are no words that can adequately describe the devastation that month after month of negative pregnancy tests causes. The frustration is crippling and the sadness is overwhelming.
I believe wholeheartedly in the power of honesty and vulnerability. Most people just want to offer you love and support… which can truly be the difference between giving up and finding the strength to start another month of treatment. The biggest reason I am open and willing to share is because of the friendships I’ve made because of that. Women from all over the country have become friends and confidants of mine as we share in our successes and our pains together. They’ve been the most rewarding part of the journey thus far.
