The year of trying was long and emotional, but the payoff of having our baby girl was all worth it.

I knew my fertility journey was going to be an uphill battle even before it started. I never had a regular period (unless I was on the birth control pill) throughout my teens and early/mid 20’s.

When my husband and I decided to try to conceive, we tried for a year with no luck. l wasn’t getting my period and had no idea when I was ovulating (or if I was at all!). The most difficult part of that year was the stress of not getting pregnant each time we tried. We kept wondering why it wasn’t working for us and why it was so easy for our friends and extended family members to get pregnant. When you are in the midst of trying to conceive (TTC), each month that goes by feels like a big loss and failure. It was difficult to keep our spirits high.

We got through this time by being open and honest with each other when it came to our emotions. Our families and close friends were very supportive too. We decided to try IVF immediately given my background and were fortunate to have it work on the first round. The year of trying was long and emotional, but the payoff of having our baby girl was all worth it.
