I had many cysts on my ovaries that were causing my hormones to be completely out of whack

When my husband and I got married, we wanted to try for our family right away. Little did we know that we would be faced with infertility. It’s something that never even crossed my mind.

I came off birth control and my period never came back. I had a ‘fake’ bleed from the pill every month. Therefore, I thought my body was having a normal period, but it was hormone induced. We began to have tests done to see why I was not having a period (no cycle and ovulation each month). It turns out, I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). I had many cysts on my ovaries that were causing my hormones to be completely out of whack. Combine that with an off follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).

My biological clock was not communicating properly with my ovaries to get into gear every month. Now we know why I’m not ovulating. Also, I had a history for overexercising with high intensity workouts. With having such a low body fat percentage and working out too much, my body was constantly in a heightened state of ‘fight or flight’ mode. Your reproductive system is always the system to shut down first if your body is trying to focus on other things.

We moved quickly to IVF after a year and a half. After my egg retrieval, I was hospitalized for just over 2 weeks with ovarian hyperstimulation (OHSS). 11 eggs were collected, 2 fertilized and were frozen until I healed. 3 months later, we transferred both embryos and are now pregnant with our little miracle baby girl.
